The festive season refers to the period around Christmas and New Year, a time filled with celebrations, gatherings, and holiday traditions. It's a time when people come together to share joy, exchange gifts, and reflect on the year gone by.
The festive period is a time of great joy but this can mean that it is an uncomfortable period for many. It may be a time of financial stress, it may remind us of those we have lost or it may seem overwhelming if one has different beliefs to the mainstream celebrations. Fundamentally this should be a time of support and kindness. We should create a happy, supportive and welcoming environment for everyone. This can be done by remembering to be inclusive. Many may not be celebrating, others will celebrate in very different ways and some will need a helping hand just to get through this period.
Financial Strain
The financial strain associated with gift-giving, holiday decorations, and travel expenses can be overwhelming. The pressure to meet societal expectations for gift-giving can lead to stress and anxiety for those on a tight budget.
Loneliness and Isolation
For those who may be far from family or have experienced loss, the holidays can magnify feelings of loneliness. The emphasis on spending time with loved ones can be a painful reminder of those who are no longer present or the absence of a strong support system.
